Dr Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Examination is an exam conducted by Mumbai Science Teachers Association to encourage students to take keen interest in science and its application in daily life. Exams are conducted for students of Std 6 and Std 9 and consist of three stages – 1) written test, 2) practicals, and 3) interviews
The written test consists of 100 questions in science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and general awareness questions about science. Duration of written exam is 90 mins and there is no negative marking. Of all the students appearing, 7.5% of top candidates move forward to next stage. As this cut-off is dynamic, the cut-off marks are variable for each year.
Selected students then appear for practical experiments in field of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Finally, based on the combined performance in written and practical exams, selected students are advanced to the interview stage.
Based on the performance of the interview stage; students are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

The main feature of this examination is that it does not have a prescribed text book. The exam stresses upon scientific concepts and real-time application of those concepts. It provides a platform for students to interact with peers outside their school and be part of a scientific community.
